Preparing for your DEXA
The bone density test is a painless, quick test with very little preparation necessary. If possible, avoid calcium supplements for about 48 hour before the test. Metal fasterners in your bra or shirt and metals snaps or zippers in your pants interfere with the accuracy of the testing. If possible, wear a sports bra or jog bra without fasteners and pants with an elastic band, like sweats, without metal fasterners. We can provide gowns and scrubs here at the office if you need to change for the exam.
We do have a questionaire for you to fill out that asks specific questions about your medical history that will help us to interpret your results and indicate your risk for fracture as well as help us make recommendations on further testing and treatment. You can download that form by clicking on the link below "bone density questionaire." If you are new to our office, also download the "patient information form". Both forms will require that you have the Adobe reader on your computer. If not, please click on "adobe reader" and will you will directed to a website where you can download the reader for free.
